Murano chandelier – Mazzega – 23 rondini pink glass

Rondini means swallows. The glass is blown into the shape of birds in flight and arranged so the piece reads as a flock caught mid turn. It is one of the more sculptural Murano forms and one of the least often seen outside Italy. This one carries 23 glass swallows. The pink sits in the glass itself rather than in a coating, which is why it deepens where the glass is thickest. Mazzega is one of the best documented Murano houses of the period, which matters when most vintage Murano on the market carries no maker at all.
